LIMA: CITY OF KINGS

Lima is a mega-city located on the desert coast of Peru. It is the third largest city in South America. It is also the second largest desert capital in the world after Cairo, Egypt. The city has a population of over 10 million people (1/3 of Peru's total population) and is constantly growing due to migration from the Andes Mountains and the Amazon Jungle. Lima is divided into 50 districts (including the 7 districts of Callao) and covers over 1,000 square miles. The city was founded in 1535 by the Spanish Conquistador Francisco Pizarro.
